A new publication on SoC from Japan

We are happy to share our research that was published in the Health Psychology Report.

We have been studying how workers in research institutions feel about their lives and work since 1986. These institutions are part of the Tsukuba Science City Network (TSCN) in Japan.

In 2022, we started a new project to find out what makes workers healthy. We call it the Tsukuba Salutogenic Occupational Cohort Study (T-SOCS).

We used data from a survey we did in 2017 to look at how sleep problems and thoughts of suicide are related among Japanese workers. We also looked at how sense of coherence affects this relationship.

We found that workers who had sleep problems were more likely to think about suicide. But we also found that workers who had a strong sense of coherence were less likely to think about suicide, even if they had sleep problems.
